Dr. Waterman grew up in East Montpelier and graduated from U-32 before attending the University of Vermont College of Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at MAHEC/Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, and returned home to Vermont in 2022.
Since returning, Dr. Waterman has had the privilege of caring for patients across northern Vermont. Over time, her practice has become increasingly focused on breast-specific care. That experience has reinforced her belief that patients deserve comprehensive, individualized care that accounts not only for their clinical circumstances, but also for their quality of life.
Excellent breast care must be grounded in science, but it cannot lose sight of the person receiving it. Patients should feel heard and cared for. They deserve honest information about where things stand, a clear plan for what comes next, and a physician who will support their informed decisions wholeheartedly.
Dr. Waterman founded GMBCC as an independent, physician-owned practice so that patients could remain at the heart of every decision. Its independent structure allows care to be designed around what patients need, rather than asking patients to navigate a practice structured around an institution.
Dr. Waterman is proud of her work expanding breast-care capabilities in northern Vermont, including launching stereotactic breast biopsy and the first contrast enhanced mammography program in Northern New England. Creating GMBCC—and building a practice structurally designed around patients—is her proudest professional accomplishment.
Outside medicine, Dr. Waterman lives in Hyde Park with her family on their small farm, raising Katahdin sheep and heritage poultry and managing a garden far bigger than needed.
